Hi WriteWorldwide readers! Today we bring you the third in our series of WriteWorldwide reader interviews. Our latest interview is with Bamidele Ojo, who’s a freelancer B2B writer. Over to Bamidele …

1) Please introduce yourself to the WriteWorldwide readers.

Hi, Fellow ESL writers! I want to thank the WriteWorldwide team for the privilege of this interview.

My name is Bamidele Ojo. I’m the founder of Contents Today and Smart Youths. I am a Nigerian freelance writer and writing coach with over 3 years of sales, marketing and content management experience.

I have garnered skills in content writing and digital marketing in the course of my writing career on Fiverr and Upwork. I have a strong passion for blogging, content marketing and promotions. I am always eager to challenge and mentor youths in excellence and productivity.

I hold a B.Sc Degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

2) Why did you choose to be a writer, and have you experienced much success yet?

My writing ability is a gift, and I love it with a passion. I lose track of time when I’m writing, and it’s become a fully-fledged profession for me.

I have written and consulted for a number of small businesses and bloggers around the world and I’ve ghostwritten for clients whose sites are doing extremely well in the search engines. I am always aspiring to move higher, do better, and earn more. I recently set up my freelance writer website to attract higher-paying clients.

3) As an ESL writer, have you faced any challenges?

A resounding Yes! I have faced so many challenges. Every business has a dose of challenges, including freelance writing.

The first challenge I faced as an ESL is acceptance by foreign clients. Some clients decided not to proceed with writing projects because of their reluctance to deal with Nigerians. But I have learnt that if you believe in yourself, nothing can stop you from attaining any level of success you so desire. The moment you are not confident in your abilities, you have lost the battle already.

So, I approach every job with confidence and I have often been able to remove any doubts or skepticism that prospective clients may have towards me or my writing ability.

4) What’s one thing about you most people don’t know?

Hmmm! How do I approach this tricky question?

I don’t give up easily. I rarely give up. I am a ‘goal-getter’. Once I set my minds on reaching a goal, I don’t give up hope until I achieve it. I am an introvert and love being low key, rather than advertising my achievements. I have successfully mentored a few youths, and I’m always happy to see other people succeeding more than myself.

5) What would you like to see more of on the WriteWorldwide blog?

WriteWorldwide has been a huge factor in helping me get started. As an ESL writer, I enjoy the blog style and your advice is always spot on.

I look forward to seeing more practical steps on landing high paying clients easily as an ESL writer. I must commend the WriteWorldwide team for doing a great job, and I am highly inspired with each update.

I agree with James Allen when he says that many people are “anxious to improve their own lives, but are unwilling to improve themselves. They therefore remain bound.”

WriteWorldwide inspires ESL writers to improve their lives and their minds. I am always eager to receive tips and advice from WriteWorldwide, and the interviews really rock too! They encourage upcoming freelance writers to keep hope alive and work to reach their earning potential.

6) Are you connected with others ESL writers, and is that helping to boost your confidence?

Definitely Yes! I have never underestimated the power of networking with other ESL writers. It’s been a lot easier than working in isolation, trying to find my feet in the freelance writing world.

If you work in isolation, you may be able to work fast, but you won’t go far. It is good to network with other ESL writers that will always challenge you to improve. Remember, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement!

My connection with other ESL writers has boosted my confidence in no small measure. We share tips from our successes and failures. I always aim to become a better person than I was yesterday.

7. What’s your favourite aspect of being an ESL writer?

I can be my own boss as an ESL writer, and continually improve myself regardless of where I am or what my first language is.

It gives me the opportunity to be confident in my innate abilities and set my mind to be the best at what I do.

8) What’s your daily writing routine?

It totally depends and I usually run a flexible schedule. I can wake as early as 4:30 to get few jobs done before other members of the family wake up.

The early morning is usually a perfect time for research.

If I’m working on a writing project, I can write up to 2000 words before 7 am. This mostly happens in the morning, although it depends on how busy I am. Most times, I often begin each day by working on the tasks that are most urgent.

I take time to identify three to five important personal tasks and add them to my Very Important Projects (VIPs) list for the day. I work on these tasks first thing in the morning. The key here is to use specific parameters so I know whether I’ve accomplished my daily goals or not.

9) What methods to you use to keep your writing skills sharp?

I read and write daily. I follow popular blogs in my niche like Copyblogger and CMI. I build up my writing skills by reading relevant freelance writing or motivation ebooks on regular basis.

I also use apps like Grammarly and Hemingway to improve my writing. They keep my writing sharp, and greatly enhance my skills.

10) What are your plans for growing your writing business and client base in the future?

I plan to guest post on popular blogs like Entrepreneur, Forbes, Copyblogger, CMI and other blogs relevant to my writing niche.

I’ll also keep cold pitching business owners and magazines for writing opportunities, and focus my efforts on attracting more clients so I can take my freelance writing career to the next level and command a higher rate.
